Discipleship Classes

At New Image Church we believe that maturing disciples of Jesus are always learning from their Master Teacher, Jesus. When Jesus left earth, He placed teachers, among others, in the church "for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ." (Ephesians 4:12 NASB)

We are designing a series of classes geared at whatever level of spiritual maturity you may be - infant, child, young adult or parent. We offer our classes in five different quarters each year. Each class ranges from 4 to 8 weeks in length. Within each level, classes may be taken in any order. We recommend that all classes at each level be completed before moving on to higher levels.

We believe discipleship requires a commitment from disciples. Some of our upper level classes may require that participants purchase class materials to demonstrate your commitment to becoming a mature disciple of Jesus Christ.

For our most mature disciples we offer "elective" classes that will normally be a study of one of the following:  a book of the Bible, a character in the Bible, a contemporary issue from a Biblical worldview, or a contemporary book by a Christian writer.

Although teenagers are welcome in these classes, they are not designed for pre-adolescent children. Please make child care arrangements for young children before enrolling.

We aim to post each quarter's class schedule online one month before the beginning of the quarter.

Discipleship Course Descriptions

Basics of Discipleship at New Image Church

This course is designed for new disciples and those new to New Image. We begin with the Great Commission, then we discuss what a disciple is and how New Image is designed to help you grow into Christ’s image. We end with an explanation of the vision and core values of NIC, and the basics of Bible study and prayer for the new Christian. This is a 6-week course.

Purpose of the Holy Spirit

This course is designed to provide child-level believers a basic understanding of the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity. The teacher begins by tracing the role and functions of the Holy Spirit in the  Old and New Testaments, and concludes by exploring the ways the Holy Spirit helps us to grow in Christ  likeness. This is a 6-week course.

I Thessalonians – The Second Coming of Jesus Christ

This parent-level elective is designed for those who want to study at length the apostle Paul’s teaching about Christ’s second coming. This is a 4-week course.

Stewardship of Life

In this child-level class you will learn about the practical, yet powerful, biblical principle of stewardship, and how to use it to transform every area of your life. Special emphasis will be given to the stewardship  of your time, talent, and finances. This is a 5-week course.

Living by Faith

Each person has been given a measure of faith (Romans 12:3). But what are you to do with it now that you have become a disciple of Jesus? This child-level class will walk you through the basics of what faith is, how to use and how to grow your faith, and show you how your faith can increasingly empower you to live like Jesus Christ. This is a 4-week course.

Praise & Worship

Praise and worship is an intentional act, a weapon, and a state of heart and mind of disciples that is expressed both alone and in company with other disciples. This course will teach the purpose, nature and roles of praise and worship in the life of the believer.

Developing a Personal Devotional Life: Prayer and Bible Study

One of the most important disciplines of a disciple is the regular habit of getting alone with God in prayer and Bible study. This class will teach you its value and the many ways to keep it a fresh and powerful inspiration in your discipleship journey.

Spiritual Warfare

Many aspects of our discipleship journey manifest themselves as a spiritual battle. This course will introduce you to the various strategies, tactics, and weapons of spiritual warfare to empower you against the attacks of Satan designed to discourage and stagnate you in your journey towards Christlikeness. Every disciple will need to employ these principles sooner or later in their walk.

Accountability & Authority in the Body of Christ

Spiritually mature disciples embrace a culture of accountability in the Body of Christ. This course examines the nature and purpose of mutual accountability and the healthy exercise of authority in the local church.

Mentoring & Reproduction

Caring, spirit-led mentoring by a mature disciple has guided many a new believer through to spiritual maturity. This class teaches basic biblical principles for one-on-one mentoring of a young disciple.

Women in the Bible and in the Church

This elective class examines biblical teaching about the roles and function of women in the local church and the Body of Christ.

A Biblical Worldview: Understanding the Times & Knowing What to Do

It's a challenge for Christians to live in the world, yet stand apart from it as Jesus instructs believers to do in John 17:15-18. This six-week course examines what a Biblical worldview is, and compares it with other views to provide a means to both understand other views and to deal with the conflicts that occur when views clash. (1 Chronicles 12:32)
